Do pets need to be sedated for ultrasounds or X-rays?

Not always. If your pet has no trouble with manual restraint or if the area to be examined is easy to get to, then no sedation is required.

Can my pet eat before an X-ray?

Generally speaking, pets do not need to fast before X-rays and other imaging tests. Fasting for at least 12 hours is usually reserved for bloodwork to get the most accurate test results possible. That being said, your veterinarian may request a blood test on the spot during a routine exam and get a reliable result even if your pet enjoyed a treat or two before their appointment.

How long do pet ultrasounds and X-rays take?

The whole procedure can be completed in about 15 minutes, depending if your pet needs to be sedated and how many times, they have to be repositioned to get the right angle. Because we have digital imaging techniques and tools, the results can also be viewed and analyzed during one appointment. You can also request copies of your pet’s results.
